The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a new clinical advice on Tuesday for treating and managing COVID-19 patients, which includes those patients who have persistent symptoms even after recovery. It also advised for using low-dose anti-coagulants for preventing blood clots.

Margaret Harris, WHO spokeswoman stated, the WHO has advised physicians to put patients in an awaken prone position and on their front to improve the oxygen flow. They also recommend the use of low-dose anticoagulants to prevent the formation of blood clots in blood vessels. Hence, they suggest the use of lower doses than higher doses as higher doses might lead to other problems. The additional things in the management are that COVID-19 patients at home should use pulse oximetry measuring the oxygen levels. This way one can identify whether someone at home is worsening and should take them to the hospital.

She further stated that a WHO-led team of independent experts, who are currently in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, are due to leave their quarantine in the following two days to continue its work with Chinese researchers related to the virus origins. Wuhan is the city in China where the first human cases were identified in December 2019.

She refused to comment on reports of interruptions in roll-out of vaccines in the European Union. She said that she doesn’t have detailed data and the WHOs first priority is to immunize all the healthcare workers in all countries in the first 100 days of this year.

On Friday, AstraZeneca, who has developed its shot with Oxford University, told the EU that it cannot meet the decided supply targets till end of March.
