On Saturday night, a 55-year-old healthcare worker in Telangana died 11 days after receiving COVID-19 vaccine. This is the third post vaccination death to be reported in the State. The Health department said that the woman had comorbidities that caused her death.

The deceased was from Kasipet in north Telangana’s Mancherial district and was immunized on 19th January at PHC Kasipet. As per a statement from the Director of Public Health, she had complained of shortness of breath and dizziness on 29th January. She was then admitted to a private hospital in the district. And a day later, she was referred to the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad.

The statement from Dr G Sreenivasa Rao stated that it has come to the notice of the undersigned that the female healthcare worker expired at about 11 PM on 30.1.2021 at NIMS. The cause of death is clearly suggestive of underlying morbidities and is not due to COVID vaccination.

The statement further added that death occurred because of Cardio – Respiratory arrest that was triggered by several morbidities such as Kyphoscoliosis with restrictive lung disease, accelerated hypertension with left ventricular failure and respiratory infection with type 2 respiratory failure.

Also, earlier a 42-year-old ambulance driver from Nirmal district and a 45-year-old healthcare worker from Warangal district have died post vaccination in the state. They both were vaccinated on 19th January. The ambulance driver died after a day and the healthcare worker died on 23rd January.
