On Wednesday, a special initiative was conducted for the police and paramilitary personnel to get vaccinated against the coronavirus infection. The turnout was on its highest point with a total of 14,743 people turning up to get the vaccine shot, which was the highest in a day almost 80.5%, since the immunization had begun on 16th January.

The Delhi government is planning to expand the network of vaccination centres so that more people can be inoculated in a single day. From Thursday onwards, the vaccination will start at 265 locations. A total of 82 new locations will also start giving COVID-19 shots in most private hospitals, such as Sir Ganga Ram City Hospital, Max Hospital, Metro Hospital, Apex City Hospital, Maharaja Agrasen Hospital and Satyawadi Raja Harishchandra Hospital.

These sites are spread across Delhi so that people from different localities won’t have to face any inconvenience. The target of single-day vaccination will then be increased from 18,300 to 26,500. The sites will also make the rollout of the 2nd dose vaccination from 13th February.

In the 1st phase, vaccines would be given to 51 lakh people, which will include 2.5 lakh healthcare workers, 6 lakh frontline workers along with more than 42 lakh people either above 50 years of age or below 50 with comorbidities and are in the priority group.

On Tuesday, COVID-19 vaccination turnout significantly touched 69.1% and further increased too. The government has allowed only healthcare workers and frontline workers to get vaccinated as of now. Only 7 adverse events were recorded and were minor cases of reaction, common with most of all vaccines.

Few districts reporting high increase in turnout were South West district (1,474 as against 896 a day before), central district (1,846 as against 1,582), West district (1,880 as against 1,496 a day before) and East district (1,045 as against 638). North East, South districts and Shahdara reported a slight drop in the total turnout. No adverse event was recorded in 5 of the 11 districts whereas 5 districts each reported only one adverse event. South district recorded two adverse events.

The overall number of healthcare workers and frontline workers who got vaccinated against the coronavirus infection had crossed 1.46 lakh on Wednesday. An official mentioned that a large number of the total vaccinated people include the frontline workers.
