6 people in Bengaluru held for selling fake medicines to senior citizens

TheTilaknagar police have arrested a gang of six men who allegedly cheated seniorcitizens by trying to sell them fake ayurvedic medicine. The arrested people areSarjith alias Mahesh (40 years), Shivalinga alias Gautam (42 years), ManjunathShirke (40 years), Ramakanth alias Amit (37 years), Kishan Raju (23 years),Kallolappa Gurappa Bagalakote (63 years) of Gokak in Belagavi and all the residentsof Yeshwantpur,

Accordingto the police, 69-year-old Ravi BR Anukar had filed a complaint on 10thFebruary stating that he went to the Jayanagar Orthopedic Centre in 9th Blockin Bengaluru, on 27th September last year for taking treatment forhis back and knee pain. While he was talking on the phone to a relative and mentioninghim about his sickness, a stranger came near him and introduced himself asRamesh. The stranger said that his brother Seetharam works in DhanvantariAyurvedic Centre in Rajajinagar and he can give ayurvedic medicine to ease hispain.

The very nextday, Ramesh took the complainant to the Ayurvedic centre and he also introduceda few people as doctors and staffers. Ramesh explained to him that thetreatment will cost around Rs 2,59,860 but the complainant stated that hecannot afford such a huge amount. Ramesh claimed to him that the money will berefunded if the pain doesn’t go away. So, the complainant paid and took themedicines given by Ramesh and his associates.

The Ayurvedicmedicine given did not help and the complainant went to the centre for arefund, but it was shut. He found other senior citizens over there, who too hadfallen prey to the same trick. The police then launched an investigation andarrested six people and Rs 5 lakh cash was recovered from them. Till now, threeothers who were cheated by them are been traced.
