Two senior and private medical doctors from Aurangabad have tested positive for COVID-19, just a few weeks after taking their first shot of the coronavirus vaccine.

This is a reminder for everyone that COVID-19 vaccines do not work overnight and COVID-19 appropriate behaviour is very important even after one receives the vaccination. Furthermore, the medical fraternity is one high-risk group as they are in contact with the possible COVID-19 patients, according to the experts.

Also, a doctor and a community healthcare worker from Mumbai along with five doctors from Nagpur. All of them had received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and recently contracted the coronavirus infection.

Dr Randeep Guleria, AIIMS Delhi said that there will always be few incidences where few people might develop the infection despite taking the vaccine. Though, it will be mild or asymptomatic disease and won’t require hospitalisation or ICU care. Also, after taking the second dose of vaccine, wearing a mask is very important. It is not to protect yourself, but also to protect your loved ones.

Aurangabad healthcare authorities said that the two doctors who are detected with COVID-19 are under observation in stable condition having mild symptoms. According to the health department records, one of the doctors took the vaccine in the last week of January, whereas the other doctor got his shot in the first week of February. They both independently noticed their symptoms and got tested earlier this week confirmed the COVID-19 infection.

Neeta Padalkar, Aurangabad Municipal Corporation’s health officer said that both the doctors, who are tested positive for COVID-19, have got their first of the two doses of vaccine. Taking both the vaccine doses can prevent a person from getting seriously ill. She further said that both these doctors have comorbidities and are in the elderly age group, however they got just mild symptoms. It is a good sign that post vaccination, their immunity has significantly developed.

As per the WHO, a good immune response boosts within two weeks of the first dose and the second dose boosts the immune response. Also, the Serum Institute of India who is manufacturing the Covishield vaccine stated that people might get the protective immune response 4 weeks after the second dose of the vaccine.
