Few days after a 42-year-old Ahmedabad woman allegedly died by suicide and in her suicide note she had written and blamed her husband for allegedly marrying her just for sexual favours and her in-laws for torturing her, the police arrested her husband and in-laws on Sunday.

Dr Hitendra Patel is anorthopedic surgeon at Devam Orthopedic Hospital at Sola in Ahmedabad, aged 47 years and his parents Manu Patel (71 years) and Subhadra Patel (69 years) were arrested by Ghatlodia Police for allegedly abetment to suicide of Hirendra’s wife, Harsha Patel, who died on 9th February.

As per the police sources, Harsha and Hitendra got married in 2020 and had no children. On 9th February, Harsha consumed poison after meeting her husband at Devam Hospital and was immediately rushed to Civil Hospital in Sola. A team of doctors declared Harsha dead while giving treatment. Harsha had left an 18-page-long alleged suicide note inside a book and blamed Hitendra for marrying her just for sexual favours and also alleged that her in-laws tortured her for dowry.

YR Vaghela, police inspector at Ghatlodia police station said that after understanding the complaint done by the victim’s father Nanjibhai, they have firstly filed an FIR against Hitendra and his parents under IPC sections 306 (i.e., Abetment to suicide), section 114 (Offence that is committed in presence of abettor) and applicable sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act. Then later, they found an 18-page-long suicide note that was written by the victim and the name of Hitendra’s sister, Deepti Patel was included in the FIR. The victim mentioned that Deepti once had pushed her down the stairs in their residence. IPC sections 377 (i.e., Unnatural sex) and section 328 (Causing hurt by means of poison) were added to the FIR. Hitendra and his parents are arrested now.
