A new article published in StatPearls reported that Schamberg disease – the most common type of pigmented purpuric dermatoses (PPDs), is characterized by chronic, benign, cutaneous eruptions with petechiae, purpura and brown, red or yellow patchy skin pigmentation. PPDs are grouped into five clinical entities –Schambergs purpura, Majocchi purpura, lichen aureus, Gougerot-Blum purpura and eczematoid-like purpura of Doucas and Kapetanakis.

The authors further reported that Schamber disease (SD) has also been called progressive pigmentary dermatosis of Schamberg, purpura pigmentosa progressive and Schambergs purpura. It has higher prevalence in males and mainly affects the tibial regions, and could also involve thighs, buttocks, trunk or upper extremities.
