In Roorkee district of Uttarakhand, a 65-year-old cardiologist was detained from his private clinic by a team of healthcare officials of Bhiwani district, Haryana. Dr ND Arora, a cardiologist is accused of fetal sex determination test.

Dr Arora, who had retired after serving in Uttar Pradesh, was caught red-handed while performing a fetal sex determination test in 2017 but was not sent to imprisonment because of some technical issues.

The 12-member Haryana team of health officials arrested the doctor. The team was led by nodal officer Dr Anita and also included 5 policemen from the state.

According to few officials, pre-natal sex determination was prevalent in Roorkee with the help of Haryana-based peddlers. Therefore, a trap was laid to trap Dr Arora; Yashpal, who is a tout; and Manglaur-resident Sanjiv Walia, Yashpals assistant.

Dr Rajesh Kumar, a deputy civil surgeon of the Bhiwani civil hospital said that they are taking Dr Arora, Yashpal, and Sanjiv to Bhiwani police station and a case is registered against them under applicable sections of Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act along with the appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code. Dr Rajesh was also a member of the team who conducted the raid.
