India administers 17 lakh COVID vaccines in one-day record

On Monday, India managed to give approximately 17 lakh COVID-19 vaccine doses till 9 pm, which is the highest doses given in one single day until now. Out of this, more than 71% doses were given to individuals of 60 years of age and those people between 45 and 60 years with specific comorbidities.
 
In the stir of an upsurge in coronavirus infection in some states such as Maharashtra, Punjab, Kerala, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, the speedy increase in vaccination against COVID-19 is significant.
 
A total number of 2.2 crore vaccine doses have been given since the launch of the nationwide immunization initiative on 16th January 2021. The first phase of the vaccination drive included only healthcare and frontline workers and almost 37.1 lakh healthcare and 3.1 lakh frontline workers were vaccinated with two doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
 
16.9 lakh vaccine doses were administered till 9 pm on Monday. Out of them, 14.3 lakh recipients were immunized with the first dose, and 2.6 lakh healthcare and frontline workers were administered the second dose of the vaccine.
