Saline is recommended by several healthcare professionals for maintaining nasal hygiene, particularly in people with allergic rhinitis, non-allergic rhinitis, and acute and chronic rhinosinusitis.1 According to a survey involving 330 family physicians, use of nasal saline was advised by 87% of physicians to patients for one or more conditions. This approach has been considered an effective and important part of management of many sinonasal conditions.2 Saline helps by removing or diluting many chemical inflammatory mediators like histamine that are released in various diseases, thereby reducing local inflammation.1 In addition, it aids in clearing the mucus, eliminating airborne allergens, and improving ciliary beat function.3 Moreover, it also enhances mucociliary function by removing the encrusted material and moisturizing the nasal cavity.3,4
