Anarticle published in The Medical Letter on Drugs discussed that dextromethorphan is anOTC derivative of morphine with no analgesic or addictive properties atrecommended doses, which can reduce cough severity. This agent exhibitsantitussive properties and can only be used in children above 4 years of agechildren. Moreover, in children, acute cough does not require pharmacologictreatment.
