On Saturday, a young passenger assaulted Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) doctor after an argument over taking a COVID-19 test at Bandra Terminus in Mumbai.

Due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the state, a civic team was arranged at the Bandra Terminus to check the body temperature of passengers who are arriving in the city from distant places. The accused was identified as Salman Ali Syed (22 years), who arrived from UP with his family.

The civic team checked Syed’s body temperature and they found that he was a little feverish using a thermal scanner. So, he was asked to take an RT-PCR test. Syed and his relative got into a dispute with the doctor and things got worse as Syed and his relative assaulted the doctor, Moazzam Hamid Ali, aged 52 years.

Railway Protection Force personnel came immediately to the spot and detained Syed on receiving the information. However, his relative managed to escape from the spot.

A case was registered against Syed under applicable sections of the Indian Penal Code for attacking a public servant. Efforts are ongoing to catch his relative.
