Almost 66,000 residents were vaccinated in Pimpri-Chinchwad and four residents among them have tested COVID positive a few days after they took the first dose of the vaccine. Two other doctors have also tested positive after receiving their second dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

The health department of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) said that they got the information related to those four people who were detected with COVID-19 after receiving the first dose.

PCMC Additional Health, Chief Dr Pavan Salve said that they also have information regarding a 46-year-old female doctor who was detected with COVID-19 even after receiving the second dose of vaccine. The other doctor, Dr Yashwant Ingale was tested positive after taking the 2nd dose of vaccine. He was tested positive one week ago and is undergoing treatment in the same hospital.

Dr Salve said that these incidents are very rare and are not surprising. It generally takes a few weeks, after the second dose, so that it builds immunity against the infection. Immunity does not strengthen on the same day as the vaccine is administered. A person can get infected during this phase. Therefore, everyone is being strongly advised to take precautions even after receiving the vaccine. Wearing masks with COVID-appropriate regulations are essential for both vaccine receivers and the general public too.

Dr Ingale said he was tested positive for COVID-19 20 days after receiving the vaccine. He received the first dose on 16th January and then received the second dose on 15th February. On 7th March, he developed fever and body ache so he immediately underwent rapid antigen tests and RT-PCR test which came positive. He avoided home isolation due to BP and diabetes.  His oxygen level was okay, but in the last two-three days dropped below 90, so was given Favipiravir and received Remedesivir dose and was feeling better.

Dr Ingale was handling COVID-19 wards last year. But from the last two months, he was handling non-Covid patients in the dental department.
