Women with PCOS have Increased Risk for COVID-19

Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have around 30% increased risk for COVID-19 compared with women without PCOS, even after adjusting for cardiometabolic and other related factors, suggested assessment of UK primary care data.

Investigators obtained data from The Health Improvement Network primary care database. The analysis included 21,292 women with PCOS/PCO and 78,310 controls. The mean age at diagnosis of PCOS was 27 years, while the mean duration of the condition was 12.4 years. The crude incidence of COVID-19 was found to be 18.1 per 1000 person-years among women with PCOS compared to 11.9 per 1000 person-years among those without the condition. Cox regression analysis adjusted for age suggested that women with PCOS had a significantly higher risk for COVID-19 compared to those without (hazard ratio 1.51)… (Medscape)
