More than 40,000 fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported in India for the fourth consecutive day. The steady rise in coronavirus cases has pushed India to become as the world’s third-worst affected country once again in terms of daily cases.

Data that is compiled by the WHO has shown that yet again the trio of the US, Brazil and India are leading the world in daily number of COVID-19 cases. On 22nd March, Brazil had reported 79,069 fresh cases, the highest in the world and was followed by the US at 60,228 new cases and India at 46,951 cases. In the last few days, India has reached the third place on 19th March and since then it has stayed in that position.

India reported 40,622 new cases on Monday, with data from Assam was to arrive till late at night. An analysis of state-wise data has shown that the increase in coronavirus cases was no longer limited to a few states. Almost nine states had reported their highest case count on Monday since January or earlier.

Gujarat reported 1,640 cases on Monday, which is the highest count in the state. Also, on Monday the highest cases recorded for Chhattisgarh was 1,525 cases, MP (1,348 cases), Delhi (888 cases) and Himachal Pradesh (200 cases). Tamil Nadu reported 1,385 cases, the highest since 14th December. Rajasthan reported 602 cases, which is the highest count since 1st January. UP and Odisha too recorded the highest cases count since 10th and 24th January, respectively.

It is a pan-India resurgence of coronavirus cases as so many peaks are recorded at the state level. Death counts were also increasing and the daily death count reached the 200 mark on Sunday.
