India has crossed the mark of 5.5 crore COVID-19 vaccination

On Friday, the Union Health Ministry said the total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in India has crossed 5.5 crore mark with more than 23 lakhs immunized in the last 24-hours, in its daily vaccination update.

According to the Health Ministry a total of 5,55,04,440 vaccine doses are given. These include 80,34,547 health care workers who took the 1st dose and 51,04,398 health care workers have taken the 2nd dose, 85,99,981 frontline workers took the 1st dose, 33,98,570 frontline workers took the 2nd dose, 2,47,67,172 recipients above 60 years old and 55,99,772 recipients aged 45 years and above with specific co-morbidities also took it.

A total number of 23,58,731 vaccines were administered in the last 24-hours and it was the 69th day of the immunization program. Out of these, 21,54,934 recipients were vaccinated throughout 40,595 sessions for 1st dose and 2,03,797 health care workers and frontline workers received 2nd dose of the vaccine. 10 states contributed for approximately 70 per cent of the vaccine doses that were given in the last 24 hours.

India has reported an upsurge in COVID-19 cases as 59,118 fresh cases along with 257 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. A total of 1,12,64,637 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infections so far with fresh 32,987 recoveries.

The increasing number of cases has reached 1,18,46,652 that includes 4,21,066 active cases and 1,60,949 deaths. Maharashtra, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka and Gujarat are the 5 states that have reported an increase in daily new COVID-19 cases.
