Several private hospitals and one government hospital in Delhi are left with no intensive care unit (ICU) beds with ventilators as the city is witnessing another surge in COVID-19 infections. ICU beds with a ventilator are very essential for patients with severe infection.

There are no ICU beds with ventilators vacant in the Central governments Northern Railway hospital. The same situation is seen in the Holy Family Hospital, Okhla, the Fortis Hospital and the Max SS Hospital at Shalimar Bagh, the Navjeevan Hospital at Pitampura, the Kalra Hospital in Kirti Nagar, and the Fortis SS hospital at Vasant Kunj.

Other organizations that have no beds include the Indian Spinal Injury Centre in Vasant Kunj, the Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute in Paschim Vihar, the Ayushman Hospital in Dwarka, Maharaja Agrasen Hospital, Punjabi Bagh, and MoolChand Khairati Ram Hospital at Lajpat Nagar.

In Delhi, 48 hospitals from the 76 private hospitals have few ICU beds with ventilators left and there is only one bed vacant in Sir Gangaram Hospital. This shows that the capital city was unprepared to deal with a sudden major surge.

The Delhi governments mobile app has shown 536 ICU beds with ventilators are vacant from the 785 beds, 880 ICU beds without ventilators are vacant out of 1,213 beds and 4,305 normal COVID-19 beds are available out of 5,777 beds.

Delhi had recorded 1,904 new COVID-19 cases and six deaths on Monday. The total number of COVID-19 cases in Delhi has reached more than 6.59 lakh and the death count reached to 11,012. As the capital city is witnessing over 1,000 cases daily, health experts have warned about the resurgence of the infection.

The second wave of coronavirus infection is spreading rapidly in India and is anticipated to get worse. On Monday, India reported 68,020 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, an increase in cases for the consecutive 19th day in a row.
