A new update published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that teachers may have a vital role in the transmission of COVID-19 in schools.

The article quoted a study conducted in a Georgia school district, that found evidence of teacher-to-teacher transmission in break rooms and teacher-to-student spread—while having lunch—in classrooms. This may be due to mask use and social distancing measures were sometimes lacking in schools.

The study that included 2 600 students and 700 staff members from a school district’s elementary schools, also informed that students had their lunch in classrooms, which could also have led to an increase in transmission.
