New Coronavirus Variant Reported in Chhattisgarh

Raipur: A new coronavirus variant has been reported in the state of Chhattisgarh, as per a report in Dainik Bhaskar. The new variant has been detected in five different samples. The impact of the new variant on the patients is yet to be ascertained. The variant, termed N-440, might weaken the body’s immune system. 

The State Health Minister TS Singh Dev stated that the Central Government had confirmed a new variant, named N-440, in five samples, adding that the variant does not appear to be as lethal. The state has not reported any case of British variant, South African variant and Brazilian variant thus far.

The state recorded 4,563 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, representing the highest single-day surge since the pandemic began. There were 39 COVID-19 related deaths on the same day, with the toll currently standing at 4,170. 

Raipur and Durg districts recorded the highest number of new cases with 1,291 and 1,199 cases reported, respectively, on Wednesday. The overall test count in the state stands at 5,757,804. 

Meanwhile, the state vaccinated 1.22 lakh individuals above the age of 60 on Wednesday, the highest single-day vaccination count in the state.
