While the initial weeks of the pandemic’s second wave in India were not associated with a corresponding increase in deaths, the scenario appears to have changed in the last four weeks. Since March 8, deaths related to COVID-19 have increased at the same pace as the surge in cases. The seven-day average of daily cases and fatalities have both increased by about 345% over this period.
Daily fatalities (seven-day average) rose from 96 on March 8 to 425 on April 4, representing a 4.5-fold increase. Over the previous four weeks, spanning February 8 to March 8, there was a 50% surge in average daily cases but no rise in deaths… (ET Healthworld – TNN, April 6, 2021)
