AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine benefits largely positive, says WHO

An official with the WHO has stated that the benefits of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine continue to be ‘largely positive’ and outweigh the risk of rare, though serious, blood clots. 

Dr Rogério Pinto de Sá Gaspar, Director for Regulation and Prequalification, was answering a question regarding the links between the vaccine and cerebral venous sinus thrombosis during WHO’s regular press briefing. Dr Pinto de Sá Gaspar stated that the benefit-risk assessment for the vaccine continued to be largely positive, adding that thrombolytic events are rare, and are being categorized based on their distribution within the population. He further stated there was no evidence at present that the benefit-risk assessment for the vaccine had to be changed… (UN, April 6, 2021)
