The COVID-19 pandemic has affected some individuals more brutally than others, and has brought to light the inequities in health, both within and between countries. On the occasion of World Health Day, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued five calls for urgent action in an attempt to improve health for everyone.
WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that it was important that all governments invest in making their health services stronger and work towards removing the barriers preventing people from using these services. WHO’s five calls for action include:
- Hasten equitable access to COVID-19 technologies within as well as between countries
- Investment in primary health care
- Giving priority to health and social protection
- Building safe, healthy and inclusive neighborhoods
- Strengthening data and health information systems… (WHO, April 6, 2021)
