Low-income countries have got only 0.2% of all COVID-19 vaccines given

A large number of COVID-19 vaccines administered have gone to wealthy countries thus far, stated the World Health Organization (WHO). 

Over 700 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered across the globe; however, the richer nations have received over 87%of these vaccines, while low-income countries have received a mere 0.2%. WHO chief Tedros Adhanonom Ghebreyesus termed it as a shocking imbalance in the global distribution of vaccines. He added that on average, almost one in four people in the high-income countries has received a vaccine, while in low-income countries, the figure is one in over 500.  

He further stated that COVAX has also been facing vaccine shortages. It has been able to distribute around 38 million doses thus far, while it was expected to deliver close to 100 million doses by March end… (UN, April 9, 2021)
