Risk of contracting COVID-19 from surfaces low: CDC

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated its guidelines on cleaning and disinfecting household surfaces and stated that the risk of contracting coronavirus by touching a contaminated surface or object is low. 

According to the agency, the chance of contracting the virus from surfaces is less than 1-in-10,000. The latest update could possibly end routine deep cleaning of hotel rooms, offices, schools, restaurants and public transport for preventing the spread of COVID-19. The agency said that though it is possible to contract the infection through surface contact, research suggests that the risk is low as surface transmission is not the main route of spread of SARS-CoV-2… (The Indian Express, April 10, 2021)
