Resident doctors from the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) protested in front of the casualty ward at 9 pm from Sunday to highlight the problems that are faced by COVID-19 patients.

Sajan Bansal, who is a resident doctor at GMCH said that they feel helpless seeing the miserable condition of COVID-19 patients. There is scarcity of beds, medicines, oxygen and ventilators. Almost 2-3 patients are occupying one bed. They are pleading to the district administration to increase the facilities but nothing is improving. So, they have decided to sit on a dharna in front of the casualty ward at 9 pm on Sunday. They will meet the Divisional Commissioner the next day and will then decide whether to continue the dharna after two days.

He further said that due to the inadequate facilities in the two government medical colleges has increased the pressure GMCH system. The protest is not under the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors or under any other organisations or political party. Even doctors from outside and others can join in the dharna.

Bansal also said that the district administration did not expand the facilities despite seeing the second wave of COVID-19 coming. The tension is to highlight the administrative indifference and patients’ suffering.
