On Sunday, a Person with Disability (PwD) lodged a complaint with Panjagutta police against a doctor of the Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) for referring him to a private hospital and also demanded Rs 60,000 for a surgery. As per the police officials, Venkat, who is a resident of Yellareddyguda, had gone to NIMS a few months back for he was suffering from headache, nausea and fever.

A NIMS doctor referred Venkat to a private hospital and over there he was diagnosed with blood clots in the brain and was suggested to undergo surgery. Anjaneyulu, who is a doctor at the private hospital, asked him to pay Rs 45,000 for the surgery and Venkat obliged.

Venkat went again to NIMS where the doctor had told him to get the surgery done. The doctor demanded Rs 60,000 from Venkat, who had an argument with the doctor. The complainant wanted surgery to be done under the Aarogyasri Scheme, as he was eligible for it. Two doctors from NIMS then abused Venkat with casteist insults. Venkat then approached the police and had lodged a complaint against them. Police officials are verifying the details of the complaint.
