India Bans Export of Remdesivir amid Rise in COVID-19 Cases

India banned export of anti-viral drug remdesivir while cases of COVID-19 continue to rise in the country. 

The government stated in an order that it has banned the export of remdesivir injection and remdesivir active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) till the situation of the pandemic in the country improves.

The statement said that the country was facing a recent surge in COVID-19 cases. As of April 11, there were 11.08 lakh active cases in the country and that they were steadily rising. This resulted in a sudden surge in the demand for remdesivir. The demand may further increase in the coming days. In order to make sure that more people get remdesivir, the government has said that manufacturers have been asked to display the details of their stockists and distributors on their website… (NDTV, April 11, 2021)
