Today is World Chagas Disease Day

Chagas disease, also known as American trypanosomiasis, largely affects the poor who do not have access to healthcare or people without a political voice.

Also called ‘silent or silenced disease,’ it progresses gradually, often showing an asymptomatic clinical course. In the absence of treatment, the disease can result in severe cardiac and digestive problems and become fatal. World Chagas Disease Day is observed on April 14, and was celebrated for the first time in 2020.

It is important to raise awareness of the disease in order to improve the rates of early treatment and cure, and to interrupt the disease transmission… (WHO)
