India recorded a new peak in daily COVID-19 cases as it registered 1.85 lakh new infections on Tuesday, representing a rise of 8.5% from the previous peak of 1.7 lakh reported on Sunday.

Daily deaths crossed the 1,000 mark for the first time since October 2. Around 1,035 deaths were recorded on Tuesday. Seven states recorded their highest-ever daily case numbers on Tuesday, with Uttar Pradesh leading the tally, reporting 18,021 new COVID-19 cases in a single day. Chhattisgarh reported 15,121 new cases and 156 more deaths in a day. Other states that hit an all-time high in daily fresh cases included Delhi (13,468), Madhya Pradesh (8,998), Gujarat (6,690), Bengal (4,817) and Bihar (4,157).
