Moderna Inc has said that its COVID-19 vaccine exhibited strong protection against COVID-19 six months after people had received their second dose, with an efficacy of over 90% against all cases of COVID-19 and over 95% against severe disease.

The company stated that the six-month follow-up of the original late-stage study of the vaccine indicated that vaccine efficacy was consistent with previous updates.

The company is also testing new versions of the vaccine targeted at a concerning variant of the coronavirus, first detected in South Africa (B.1.351).
