UK Detects 77 Cases of COVID Variant First Found in India

Health authorities in the United Kingdom have found 77 cases of the highly infectious B.1.617 variant of coronavirus, first identified in India, and has designated it as a Variant Under Investigation (VUI).

Public Health England (PHE) reported on Thursday that the variant first identified in India has a number of mutations, including E484Q, L452R, and P681R. PHE stated that it has identified 77 cases of this variant in the UK, adding that all required public health interventions will be undertaken, including increased contact tracing.
