India may record over 2k deaths per day due to COVID by first week of June: Report

A report of the Lancet COVID-19 Commission by India Task Force members has stated that India may witness 1,750 deaths per day due to COVID-19, which may increase to around 2,320 by the first week of June.

The experts recommend a temporary ban on gatherings of groups of more than 10for the coming two months. It did not recommend a blanket national or state lockdown, as against localized, phased restrictions.The 20 member expert panel has stated that the second wave differs from the first one seen in September, 2020. The expert panel said that the rate of increase in new cases is significantly higher and the surge from 10,000 to 80,000 new cases per day between February and April has taken less than 40 days, as opposed to 83 days in September… (ET Healthworld, April 17, 2021)
