India reported 2.94 lakh new COVID cases on Tuesday, second highest ever recorded worldwide

India registered more than 2.94 lakh new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, the second highest daily case tally recorded by any country thus far. The death toll for the day crossed 2,000 for the first time since the onset of the pandemic.

With 2,94,291 new cases recorded on Tuesday, the case count for the country was around three-fold higher than the peak of 98,795 daily cases recorded during the first wave on September 17. The U.S. had reported 3,07,570 cases on January 8, 2021.

The positivity rate in the country stood at 19% on Tuesday, suggesting that the daily case numbers may cross 3 lakh soon. Delhis positivity rate was more than 32%, while it was more than 25% in Bengal, and over 20% in Maharashtra and Jharkhand… (ET Healthworld – TNN, April 21, 2021)
