Indian COVID Variant Detected in Belgium

The coronavirus variant contributing to a spike in cases in India has been found in Belgium in a group of Indian students who arrived from Paris, reported authorities.

Twenty nursing students, who arrived in Belgium in mid-April after travelling from the Charles de Gaulle airport, tested positive for the Indian variant. The students are currently in quarantine in Aalst and Leuven in northern Belgium where they had to start a training course. Several experts suggest that they may have been victims of a super-spreader, which could either have been a member of their group, or another passenger on the bus through which they traveled to Belgium from Paris. Another expert reported that the group had come to Paris on April 12 and several students started having symptoms five days later… (NDTV - Agence France-Presse, April 23, 2021)
