India registered over 3.3 lakh COVID cases on Thursday, the second day in a row when it added more than three lakh new cases. No country had registered these many cases for two consecutive days thus far.

If cases continue to rise at this rate, the country could add about a million cases in three days. Thursday was also the 17th consecutive day when over a lakh new cases were added to the tally. For the 10th day in a row, the country registered more than 1,000 daily deaths. In the past 10 days, more than 15,000 people have died due to COVID-19 or related complications.

Maharashtra leads the states with 67,013 new cases, followed by Uttar Pradesh (34,379), Kerala (26,995), Delhi (26,169), and Karnataka (25,795) reporting more than 25,000 daily cases. Maharashtra also leads the country in daily deaths, with 568 fatalities reported on Thursday… (ET Healthworld – TNN, April 23, 2021)
