The head of the World Health Organization voiced alarm at Indias current wave of COVID-19 with record cases and deaths, and stated that the organization is pushing to help address the crisis.
WHO chief, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said, "The situation in India is beyond heartbreaking." He said that the WHO was doing everything possible and was providing critical equipment and supplies. He added that besides other things, the organization was sending thousands of oxygen concentrators, prefabricated mobile field hospitals and laboratory supplies. The agency has also transferred over 2,600 of its experts from various programs, including polio and tuberculosis, to work with health authorities in the country to assist in the response to the pandemic… (NDTV - Agence France-Presse, April 26, 2021)
