India records more than 4 lakh COVID cases in a day in new global record

On Saturday, India registered more than 400,000 new COVID-19 infections in a span of 24 hours for the first time, in a new global high.

According to data from the health ministry, 401,993 new infections were reported, with the total caseload standing at 1,91,64,969. A total of 3,523 deaths were reported in a span of 24 hours, taking the death count to 2,11,853.

Meanwhile, the United States is set to restrict travel from India starting next week, on account of the surge in COVID-19 cases in the country, stated the White House on Friday. Press Secretary Jen Psaki said that as advised by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, travel will be restricted from India and will come into effect from May 4… (NDTV, May 1, 2021)
