India Reported 66 Lakh COVID-19 Cases in April

Amid the second wave of COVID-19, India registered over 66 lakh COVID-19 cases in the month of April, which made it the worst month of the pandemic thus far. Last year, it took six months for the caseload to rise by 66 lakh.

The states of concern over the last four weeks have been Maharashtra, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, reported Joint Secretary in the Union Health Ministry, Lav Agarwal. From April 1-14, Maharashtra accounted for 43.2% cases, followed by Chhattisgarh with 7.4% cases and Uttar Pradesh contributing 6.2%. The rest of the country contributed 43.1% of the cases during the 14 days, said Agarwal. From April 15-28, Maharashtra accounted for 21.6% of the cases, followed by Uttar Pradesh contributing 10.4% and Delhi contributing 7.8% of the cases. The rest of the country accounted for 60.2% of the cases during this period… (NDTV – PTI, May 1, 2021)
