Pfizer to apply for COVID-19 vaccine authorization for 2 to 11 year olds in September

Pfizer is expected toseek emergency use authorization for its COVID-19 vaccine for 2 to 11 year old children in September, stated the company on Tuesday.

Pfizer’s vaccine safety and efficacy study in children 6 months to 11 years of age is still underway. The company’s CEO Albert Bourla stated that they expect to have readouts and submit for EUA for two groups - children ages 2-5 years and 5-11 years - in September. Bourla further stated that they expect the readout and submission for children ages 6 months to 2 years in the fourth quarter of this year. The company has already sought emergency use authorization for its vaccine for adolescents 12 to 15 years of age and the FDA is expected to authorize it in this age group by early next week… (CNN, May 4, 2021)
