India records its highest COVID deaths at 4,187 in a single day

India’s COVID-19 pandemic has crossed another forbidding milestone as the country reported more than 4,000 deaths in a single day, as the daily cases continued over 4 lakhs for the third consecutive day. On Friday, India reported 4,187 fatalities, the third country after the US and Brazil to report above 4,000 deaths in a single day.

4,01,522 fresh cases were reported on Friday, India has recorded ahuge number of cases in 82 days of the 2nd COVID wave in over a year. Since 14th February, India reported 1,09,68,039 cases of the COVID-19 as compared to 1,09,16,481 cases that were recorded on 30th January 2020 till 14th February 2021.

India’s COVID caseload has doubled in 82 days causing a rapid rise as the number has doubled is 1.1 crore. Assuming that the 1st wave began from 1st April 2020, the 2nd wave has seen four times higher daily case counts than the first wave.

More than 82,000 COVID deaths were recorded in the country since 14th February. India has recorded a total of 2,38,197 COVID-related deaths till now. On Friday, five states reported their highest daily death count. One of them is Karnataka, which saw a huge surge in deaths with 592 people succumbing to the coronavirus.

The highest daily count of deaths recorded in Uttar Pradesh (372 deaths), Tamil Nadu (197deaths), Rajasthan (164 deaths) and Himachal Pradesh (56 deaths). Maharashtra continued to report the highest number of deaths at 898. The death count continued to be high in Delhi (341 deaths), Chhattisgarh (208 deaths), Punjab (165 deaths), Haryana (162 deaths), Uttarakhand (137 deaths), Jharkhand (136 deaths) and Bengal (112 deaths). The total death count crossed the 10,000 mark in Punjab and Chhattisgarh on Friday. The COVID death count has topped 10,000 in almost 8 states.
