India records highest single-day COVID deaths on Friday

India reported over 4,000 deaths from COVID-19 in a single day on Friday, as daily cases continued to be more than 4 lakh for the third straight day.

The country registered 4,187 deaths on Friday, becoming the third country after the US and Brazil to record over 4,000 deaths in a single day. India logged 4,01,522 new COVID-19 cases on Friday. The country has registered more cases in 82 days of the second wave compared to the number in more than a year before that.

Since February 14, India has registered 1,09,68,039 cases of COVID-19, compared to 1,09,16,481 cases recorded between January 30, 2020 and February 14, 2021… (ET Healthworld – TNN, May 8, 2021)
