The World Health Organization (WHO) has listed Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use, thus allowing the rollout of this vaccine globally. 

The Sinopharm vaccine is manufactured by Beijing Bio-Institute of Biological Products Co Ltd. Dr Mariângela Simão, WHO Assistant-Director General for Access to Health Products said that the addition of this new vaccine will help speed up COVID-19 vaccine access for countries trying to protect their healthcare workers and populations at risk. Dr Mariângela urged the manufacturer to participate in the COVAX Facility and support equitable vaccine distribution.
