On Tuesday, Goa health minister Vishwajit Rane made an astounding announcement that many COVID patients are dying due to shortage of oxygen supply in the early hours of morning at Goa Medical College (GMC). And the same morning 26 people died between the same hours on Tuesday. The minister had asked the Bombay High Court to investigate activities at GMC.

He said that because of the interrupted supply of oxygen, they feel that between 2am - 6am many people were dying in GMC. There is an urgent need for an inquiry by the High Court. The High Court can appoint an expert committee to investigate the deaths that happened between 2am to 6am.

For several days, TOI has reported a night drop of oxygen that used to often leave several patients gasping for breath. With no help approaching, doctors and nurses were forced to improvise, every now and then hooking up to three patients to one single oxygen cylinder.

Rane’s statement came on the same day when Goa reported 75 COVID deaths, its highest-ever single-day count, out of which 48 patients died at GMC.
