A new CDC study adds to the increasing real-world evidence suggesting that COVID-19 mRNA vaccines protect health care personnel (HCP) against COVID-19.

mRNA vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna decreased the risk of getting sick with COVID-19 by 94% among fully vaccinated HCP. Data were obtained from a network of 500,000 HCP across 33 sites in 25 U.S. states, and provided strong evidence that mRNA vaccines are effective against symptomatic COVID-19 illness in real-world settings. The study noted that symptomatic disease was decreased by 94% among HCP who were fully vaccinated (seven or more days after receiving the second vaccine dose) and by 82% among partially vaccinated individuals (14 days following receipt of first dose till six days after second dose)… (CDC, May 14, 2021)
