The chief of the World Health Organization (WHO) urged affluent countries to delay vaccinating the younger population against COVID-19 and donate vaccine doses to the COVAX vaccine solidarity scheme.

WHO head, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, again cautioned against vaccine nationalism, as low-income nations at present are receiving a mere 0.3% of the supply. He stated that vaccine supply in low and lower-middle income countries has not been enough to even vaccinate the health and care workers. He further said, “I understand why some countries want to vaccinate their children and adolescents, but right now I urge them to reconsider and to instead donate vaccines to COVAX.”  (UN, May 14, 2021)
