Plasma Therapy Dropped as COVID-19 Treatment by Government Task Force

Convalescent plasma therapy, being used in hospital settings for treating moderate COVID-19 patients, has been dropped from the government’s list of COVID-19 treatments. 

The National COVID Task Force took the decision as the experimental treatment appeared to be ineffective in decreasing the progression of the disease or fatalities. At a meeting convened last week, all of the task force members were in favor of excluding plasma therapy from the treatment guidelines. Previous guidelines had stated that the procedure could be used on moderate patients within seven days of symptom onset. Many scientists had brought to the notice of the Principal Scientific Advisor K Vijay Raghavan, the irrational and non-scientific use of the procedure in India… (NDTV (with inputs from PTI), May 18, 2021)
