Very few bleeding, clotting events after COVID vaccination in India, says Govt

A government panel looking into the adverse events following COVID-19 vaccination has noted that India recorded 26 potential cases of bleeding and clotting following the administration of Covishield vaccine.

A statement released by the Union Health Ministry said that more than 23,000 adverse events have been reported since the vaccination drive started in India with Covishield and Covaxin. Out of these, 700 were reported as serious. The National Adverse Event Following Immunisation committee (AEFI) carried out a case review of 498 serious and severe events. Among these, 26 were reported to be potential thromboembolic events, after the administration of Covishield, with a rate of 0.61 cases/million doses.
