India registered a record 4,529 deaths due to COVID-19 in a single day taking the toll to 2,83,248, as 2,67,334 new infections were added in a day, taking the total case count to 2,54,96,330, as per the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.

The active cases have come down to 32,26,719 and constitute 12.66% of the total infections in the country. The COVID-19 recovery rate in the country has now increased to 86.23%, according to the updated data. The number of people who have recovered increased to 2,19,86,363, while the case fatality rate now stands at 1.11%.
