The government has asked all states to declare mucormycosis an epidemic. 

A letter from the Health Ministry has directed states to list the rare but potentially lethal infection under the "Epidemic Diseases Act". All confirmed or suspected cases of mucormycosis, a condition being observed in recovering COVID-19 patients, have to be reported to the health ministry. Health Ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal said in a letter to states that the fungal infection is tied to prolonged morbidity and mortality among COVID-19 patients and the treatment requires a multi-disciplinary approach, including eye surgeons, ENT specialists, general surgeons, neurosurgeons, dental facial surgeons and an anti-fungal medicine, amphotericin… (NDTV, May 20, 2021)
