Doctors in Patna have warned now that a white fungus infection can be as fatal as mucormycosis, or black fungus, if it gains entry into the lungs specially in immuno-compromised people, which also includes COVID patients and those recovered from it.

Dr S N Singh, head of microbiology, Patna Medical College and Hospital, said that the presence of Candida is detected in the lungs of four patients. Out of them two patients have recovered from COVID-19. However, no case of white fungal infection in COVID patients are reported in Patna, but white fungus (i.e., Candida and Aspergillus) if reached the lungs can pose a new threat.

Experts say that diabetic condition, hot and humid environment, and being on oxygen support for a long period of time were seen as main causes of black and white fungal infection.
